The low blows started before Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito stepped into the ring.
In a video that appeared on various websites Tuesday, Margarito, his trainer Robert Garcia and Oxnard fighter Brandon Rios mocked the symptoms of Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, who has Parkinson’s disease.
“I had trouble sleeping last night,” Roach said Wednesday after reviewing the video. “I want to fight all those guys myself, but I’m too old. … I’ll never talk to any of those guys again.”
Pacquiao and Margarito will fight for the World Boxing Council junior-middleweight title Saturday at Cowboys Stadium.
The news conference Wednesday went beyond the typical big-fight testiness at the end of long training camps, when fighters, and those closest to them, finally come face to face with their opponent after weeks of derogatory talk with a battle looming.
Garcia tried to apologize at the news conference without saying the word “sorry,” adding that Rios “didn’t know [Roach's condition] was a disease. He thought it was from his 13 losses [as a fighter]. I want to make that clear.”
Garcia said he wanted to apologize to Roach face to face at a later date and admitted, “Anything to win a fight, we’ll use. This is part of the game: head games.” LATimes.com

Blame won by a head in a thrilling finish with the 6-year-old mare, who threaded her way through traffic from last place while the crowd of 72,739 urged her on down the stretch under the lights at Churchill Downs.

As already reported, Maria Sharapova and Sasha Vujacic are engaged. The LA Laker NBA basketball star confirmed the engagement tonight in an on-camera pre-game interview with K-Cal in Los Angeles.
“That stays between us, ” said Vujacic when asked how he proposed. “But it was how to say, ‘Old School’ probably. I had to do it like a gentlemen. It was good, she was happy. The answer was ‘yes’ so I think she liked it.”
Vujacic said he wasn’t nervous about popping the question which he did on the couple’s one-year anniversary. The two first reportedly met at a friend’s barbecue last year.
No wedding date has been announced.

A friendly basketball game between China and Brazil on Tuesday ended after a huge fight reportedly broke out between both teams. (see video below)
The brawl began after China’s team coach argued with a referee over a foul that was called. Both teams started to play very physically, eventually leading to the brawl.
Both benches cleared and players started throwing kicks and punches at each other.
After they were separated and play was stopped, China’s players attacked the Brazilians while they were walking to the locker room. The Brazilians reportedly refused to play the rest of the game.

Herschel Walker’s daily routine is anything but typical. He starts the day off with anywhere from 750 to 1000 push-ups, and 2,000 sit-ups. From there, he doesn’t eat breakfast, and instead goes right into training for mixed martial arts, which includes wrestling, kickboxing, sparring and jujitsu. You would think that after 6 or 7 hours of hard training he would at least stop for lunch. Nope. Instead he continues to train even longer. He only eats one meal a day, and that’s dinner.
When he sits down for dinner, unlike most athletes, and those he’s competing against now in MMA, he doesn’t load on the protein. In fact he may go several days without having more then a few grams of protein.
Instead he eats mostly bread and salads. “I don’t worry about protein. I don’t worry about all that. I’m from old school. I grew up in south Georgia. They didn’t worry about cholesterol or protein. The NFL is aggressively investigating allegations that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre sent inappropriate messages and photos to a former Jets employee, according to a source familiar with the league’s review.
The investigation is on a fast track and commenced Thursday, the same day that Deadspin.com posted voice messages and salacious photos that Favre allegedly sent to Jenn Sterger when both were employed by the New York Jets in 2008.
Sterger is cooperating with the investigation and a source said that NFL security officials will meet with Favre if she confirms and/or provides evidence that the allegations have merit.
Once the NFL completes its investigation, the source said any disciplinary action warranted under the personal conduct policy — including suspension — will occur “as soon as possible.” Favre has not denied the allegations since the report.
